FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC --This morning, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke at an event about the future of the U.S. economy, co-sponsored by the Center for American Progress and the American Action Forum. In his speech Mayor Bloomberg outlined recommendations on how Congress can lift itself out of its current gridlock and come up with deficit solutions that will put the country back on the road to economic solvency. He also discussed compromises that both parties will have to make in order to pass a bold fiscal plan that will show the world that the U.S. is serious about our future and give businesses around the world the confidence to invest.

Former Fiscal Commission and current Moment of Truth project co-chairs Erskine Bowles and Sen. Alan Simpson released the following joint statement praising the Mayor's call for a bold, comprehensive fiscal plan:

"At a time when partisan politics seems to be getting the best of the deficit reduction efforts, Mayor Bloomberg's speech today was a very timely and much needed call to end the Washington stalemate and find meaningful solutions. We applaud the Mayor's forward thinking remarks that ask everyone to look for budget cuts and revenues to bring about a bold plan that will get this country out of the recession and back on the path to prosperity. We hope that the Members of the Select Committee and leaders in Congress listen to his advice."
